AROMATHERAPYAbout Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy is the art of using essential oils to help restore balance in the body. It is a form of natural healing - a truly holistic therapy - not only taking account of a person's physical state, but also their emotions which have a huge impact on general well-being.
What is an essential oil?
Essential oils are found in various parts of plants - leaves, flowers, fruit, grass, roots, wood, bark, gums and blossom and are extracted from the plants using a variety of processes. Essential oils have many chemical components which have a physical effect on our bodies. Because they are highly fragranced, the aroma also has a therapeutic effect on our emotions. Different oils have different effects and a skilled aromatherapist will use her knowledge and experience to choose just the right blend of oils to suit your needs. For example, some oils are relaxing, whilst others are uplifting or stimulating. Some oils may help to relieve stress and anxiety, whilst others may help the respiratory system, and make breathing easier.
What to expect?
Initially, a confidential consultation will take place. This is a thorough discussion about you - including your medical history, general health, medication, lifestyle and sleeping patterns. Taking all this information into account will help me to decide which oils will be the most beneficial for you. A gentle, flowing massage will follow so that the essential oils are absorbed through your skin into your blood stream. Pressure is gentle, but firm - gentle enough so that you can relax, whilst firm enough so that you know you are having a massage.
What Conditions May be Helped?
Aromatherapy may be very helpful in a wide range of conditions including
"You always put me right" (Audrey, Ellesmere)
